NOW ONLINE ACQUIRES SMALL PENN. PROVIDER

NOW ONLINE ACQUIRES SMALL PENN. PROVIDER

In the rapidly consolidating market of Internet service pro-viders, executives such as Jeffrey Williams have a simple choice: buy or be bought.

For now, Mr. Williams, CEO of Now Online Inc. in Mayfield Village, is buying. On Sept. 1, Now Online acquired for $1 million Pathway Internet Inc. of Grove City, Pa. Both companies sell Internet access to corporations and individuals.

The addition of Pathway’s 5,000 customers increases Now Online’s customer base to nearly 20,000.

‘This was our fourth acquisition, and our plan is to do more,’ Mr. Williams said. The 3-year-old Now Online is negotiating with nine Internet service providers, two locally and the rest in Pennsylvania.

‘We have a great interest in going into Detroit’ as well, he said.

While Mr. Williams said he frequently is approached by larger companies interested in buying Now Online, for now he isn’t interested in selling.

Instead, he’s mapping out a growth strategy that includes moving the headquarters and consolidating another office in a new office building in Chesterland next summer.
